Regional One Perioperative Students

Nine AWM students were selected to participate in a Perioperative experience at Regional One Health.

The perioperative experience encompasses the entire patient journey surrounding a surgical procedure, typically divided into three stages: preoperative (preparation), intraoperative (during surgery), and postoperative (recovery). It focuses on safety, education, and emotional support to manage anxiety and pain.

The students were given a tour of the pre/post-operating space, an operating room, and were shown surgical instruments and equipment. The students were also given access to the lab where surgical instruments are sterilized and prepared.

The students met many key members of the Perioperative team where they discussed their careers and experiences working at Regional One.

These workforce experiences provide valuable insight to students as they begin to make decisions about their future.
